The United States District Court and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina announce that the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit has appointed David Marion Warren as the new United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Judge Warren will replace Judge J. Rich Leonard, who retired last summer to become the Dean of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. Judge Warren will be stationed in Raleigh, North Carolina. Judge Warren took the oath of office in a Special Ceremonial Session of Court on February 7, 2014 at the Bankruptcy Court in the Century Station Building on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh. A formal investiture will be held March 21, 2014.

Judge Warren attended Wake Forest University where he received both his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, majoring in psychology in 1981, and his Juris Doctor degree in 1984. Prior to his appointment, Judge Warren worked as an attorney (partner) with the law firm of Poyner Spruill LLP in Raleigh and Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Judge Warren began his legal career by serving as a law clerk to the late Honorable Thomas M. Moore, United States Bankruptcy Judge.

Judge Warren has vast experience in the areas of bankruptcy law and creditor rights. He is certified as both a Business and Consumer Bankruptcy Law Specialist by the North Carolina State Bar and by the American Board of Certification. He served as Chair of the Local Rules Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina from 2001 to 2005. Judge Warren has also served the court as a Chapter 7 trustee for nearly three decades.

Judge Warren and wife, Keena Bartley, reside in Raleigh.
