Guidelines for Interpreters
- The court does not provide translators for court hearings. If you do not speak English, you must bring an interpreter with you to your hearing.
- The interpreter must be a disinterested party (no family members or friends).
- The interpreter must have a basic familiarity of legal principles, so he or she may accurately translate questions and answers during the hearing.
- The interpreter must be arranged in advance of any court appearance. All parties, as well as the courtroom staff for the appropriate judge, must be notified that an interpreter will be used at least 5 days prior to the scheduled hearing. The name and contact information for the interpreter must be provided.
- Any cost must be borne by the party using the interpreter.
